Helping to keep a medieval gem open and relevant in the 21st century.
Our
Mission
We are a non-profit charitable association established to promote increased use of the medieval building of St. James' Church, Wigmore for community-based cultural events in order to obviate the threat of closure that has hung over the building for several years.
The old adage, "use it or lose it" has never been more pertinent.
We are registered with the Charity Commission - Registered Charity Number 1205026
Our Focus
Our focus is to establish the church building as the cultural venue at the heart of our village, to enrich the experience of visitors to the church and the nearby medieval castle and to build relationships with other local organisations to reinforce the church building as a valuable resource within our community.
Events
Establishing a varied programme of cultural events and activities with appeal across our community.
Heritage
Providing modern, professional interpretative information of the church, castle and wider village.
Ringing the Harley Bells
The bells of St. James' being rung by the visiting Hereford Diocesan Guild of Bellringers.
These actual bells have been ringing over the village for 300 years and when they were new the church had another 700 years of history already.
Help us to keep it open and relevant in the 21st century by becoming a Member of the Friends of St. James' Church, Wigmore.
